21st World Scout Jamboree
Hello All,
Well the adventure is nearly upon us. We leave tomorrow morning for the 21st World Scout Jamboree. I, on behalf of the four Explorers from Manchester South, would like to thank you for your support and guidance over the last 18 months.
We have sucessfully fundraised every last penny on the costs and are now looking forward to a life changing experience. It is a privelage to attend the Jamboree on behalf of Manchester South District, Greater Manchester East County, and the UK!
I am keeping a blog while I am at the Jamboree, with my thoughts and photos from the camp. You can visit it here: http://ben21wsj.blogspot.com
We will also compile a full report with photos after the Jamboree to send to everyone.
There are also two blogs from IST members that can be found:http://matt21wsj.blogspot.com/and http://simonsjamboreeblog.blogspot.com/
Overall a huge thank you for your support, and we look forward to speaking to you afterwards!
Yours in Scouting,
Ben Bowen

Greater Manchester East Centenary Camp!
County Centenary Camp
Dates: 25th - 28th May 2007
Over the weekend of Friday 25th – Monday 28th May, the whole of Scouting in the UK will be camping. Ok, that may be hard to believe, but this weekend is the official camps to celebrate the Centenary of Scouting. Up and down the country, in all areas of the UK, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will be celebrating 100 years of Scouting, and Didsbury Viking Explorer Scouts will be no different!
The Greater Manchester East Centenary Camp has been
years in the planning. As I type this information, I’m still quite in the dark myself about just what activities will be going on over the 4 days of the camp. What I do know is that over £5000 has been spent on deposits for activities, and there will be a massive range of activities for all our members to try.
There will be activities from morning to night, all throughout the bank holiday weekend, along with three nights of camping, and fun activities with the members of the group. There will be three different ‘sub camps’ and the districts that make up Greater Manchester East will be split into these sub camps. We are in the Curlew Sub Camp, along with 600 other members. Already there are over 2000 Scout attending, making this the biggest ever event in the history of Greater Manchester East.
Please read everything in the Bumper Pack and follow all instructions!

About the Unit
The Viking unit serves the entire Manchester South District and is open to anyone aged 14 to 18 years of age.
The unit was orginally formed in January 2004. We orginally had 7 members all from the 88th Manchester Scout group. Over the last few years we have originally increased in size dramatically, but unfortunately now are lacking in numbers. We now have 6 members and we are in consant contact with many of the groups in the Manchester South District.
Where? When? How?
We meet on Wednesdays at 2000hr (8pm) at 88th Manchester Scout HQ "The Lodge" School Lane Didsbury.
Just turn up or e-mail the leaders.
Do come and join, and see what fun we have!
